WE’VE DONE IT! Abbeyside 3A are league winners and complete the double with a 2–0 win vs Kilmacthomas FC
Abbeyside 2 – 0 Kilmacthomas FC
Scorers:
Jack Donnelly 12’,
Chris Keohan 85’
Abbeyside started brightly and were rewarded on 12 minutes when Jack Donnelly opened the scoring with a tremendous strike. The hosts kept pushing for more before the break and were unlucky not to add a second after sustained pressure.
Kilmacthomas grew into the game after half-time and carved out a few chances of their own, but superb defending and goalkeeping, led by Timmy McGrath, man of the match in the recent cup final, kept them at bay.
With five minutes to go, sharp passing through midfield released Chris Keohan, who finished coolly to seal the win on 85 minutes. It was a gutsy, all-in performance from the entire squad, especially coming off the back of a hard weekend after the cup final.
Big shout-out to Jim Mulherne and Henry Morrisey, who guided Abbeyside to this great double — League and Cup. The whole club and parish are proud of the lads. Well done to Kilmacthomas FC for a great game and sporting contest.
Only a few years after being close to closing the gates, Abbeyside FC have now won five titles in one year — a brilliant moment for the club and the Abbeyside community.
The club will be celebrating again this weekend
